Camperdown House Renovation

Project Description

Renovation to a Single Story Terrace House in one of Sydney’s fast moving sought after suburbs.

We completely removed the old kitchen, kitchen walls & bathroom. Designed and installed a brand new modern kitchen in a full polyurethane finish with stone benchtops and a huge island and breakfast bar seating to bring both kitchen and living areas more together in open plan living.

Due to some termite damage in the floor structure we had to remove and replace both bathroom and bedroom floors. The flooring was replaced with a recycled baltic pine in the bedroom so it matched the rest of the house.

We totally reconfigured the bathroom layout and installed a new aluminium louvre window to the bathroom which brought a real elegant look to match the new bathroom design with fresh modern clean lines throughout.

The original hallway horsehair plaster ceiling was replaced with a new suspended gyprock ceiling, this allowed us to install new LED down lights in the hallway which create a more welcoming entry to the kitchen/living area.

The exterior of the house was looking very tired and aged and did give a true reflection of the houses quality so while we had the painters on site doing the internals we decided to freshen up the outside at the same time.

Obstacles that were Overcome

Two existing kitchen walls needed to be removed to open up the kitchen/living area, we were lucky enough with the existing roof cavity which allowed us to install an engineered LVL beam in the roof space to support the ceiling joists. This is always our preferred option when installing beams as it saves us having a bulkhead beam running below the ceiling line.

The reconfiguration of the bathroom was certainly a challenge in such a small space, however some creative thinking and the ability to drop our floor structure and lay up our screed and tiles to allow a flush transition from Bathroom to hallway is very pleasing, the clients are very happy with the outcome. One bedroom floor was unfortunately rotten and out of level which we completely stripped back and replaced.

The project was a huge success. The house is now modern, but we still managed to keep its original features and character e.g. Fire Place, Floors, Arch’s.

Due to removing walls and creating the open plan living has resulted in the house feeling so much bigger. Raised ceilings in bathroom area with the full upgrade has resulted in a much more enjoyable relaxing space.

We have now done 4 projects for the same clients and have a very strong relationship, looking forward too many more.
